Following projects like Chainswap, Anyswap, and Poly Network, the cross-chain protocol pNetwork was also attacked by hackers today, resulting in a loss of over $13.08 million.
According to pNetwork's official Twitter, the attackers exploited a vulnerability in its code to attack pBTC on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC), stealing 277 BTC, totaling approximately $13.08 million. pNetwork stated that other cross-chain bridges were not affected and that other funds within pNetwork are safe. Previously, the code had undergone an audit conducted by Cryptonics Consulting.
The project indicated that the cross-chain bridge is currently being repaired and is expected to resume normal operations within 12 hours. They will also develop a solution for pBTC holders on BSC and mentioned that a $1.5 million bounty will be offered if the hacker returns the funds.
According to information on pNetwork's official website, the project is a cross-chain liquidity protocol that uses an asset anchoring solution and has integrated with blockchain networks such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Arbitrum, BSC, XDai, EOS, Polygon, Telos, and Ultar, with a total locked value of $180 million.
