Musk has ordered Twitter to carry out layoffs, which may be completed before November 1 to save on payroll expenses
According to ChainCatcher news, citing informed sources from The New York Times, Musk has ordered layoffs across Twitter, and some managers have been asked to provide lists of departing employees. Insiders expect the scale of layoffs to be significant. The first affected department may be the legal, trust, and safety department, which is responsible for policy-making and overseeing content moderation. Meanwhile, managers in the information security and privacy department are also on the list for drafting layoff targets.
Reports indicate that layoffs could occur before November 1, as employees will receive stock awards on that day (which typically constitute a large portion of their salary). However, if Musk dismisses employees before then, he could save a substantial amount on payroll expenses.
Earlier reports indicated that an informed source stated this week that Twitter's layoffs could approach 50%. (Source link)
