The Bank of Spain publicly solicits proposals for wholesale CBDC projects

ChainCatcher news, the Spanish central bank plans to launch a wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC) project, requiring financial institutions and technology providers to submit proposals for the project by January 31. The bank stated in an official announcement that the plan aims to simulate the use of CBDC in wholesale transactions, which refer to transactions involving the transfer of funds between banks and financial institutions.

The bank added that the wholesale CBDC project is unrelated to the research the European Union is conducting on the retail digital euro. It is reported that in September this year, the French central bank announced two projects to assess the wholesale CBDC initiative. (Source link)
