Activity on the Solana chain is almost completely shut down, and validators are preparing for a second attempt at a network restart

ChainCatcher news, according to CoinDesk, validators running the Solana infrastructure are preparing for a second network restart attempt, hoping to restore services to blockchain users. Validators have concluded that the best way to correct the blockchain is to perform a synchronized restart and fork the chain. The first attempt was abandoned due to choosing the wrong restart point. Validators and developers told CoinDesk that the issues starting from slow transaction processing have evolved into a near-total shutdown of activity on the Solana chain. Block production on the chain has stopped, and transactions are either unprocessed or unverified. For users of the chain, this means their on-chain crypto assets are immovable, frozen in place until the critical backend infrastructure comes back online.

Hours after the crisis began, key figures in the Solana ecosystem are still searching for the cause of the incident. One major theory is that a "fat block" affected the mechanisms of the blockchain. Notably, shortly before the issues began, the network was upgrading to a new version. As of the time of publication, validators are working with developers from Solana Labs to attempt to restart the blockchain again, having gained support from 70% of stakers, while the network needs 80% absolute majority support to continue operating.
