From Ethereum to Rollups, which public chains are the true love of users?
Written by: Ignas

This article analyzes the actual application of major public chains and Rollups among users based on the latest survey. Although Ethereum still dominates, high transaction fees limit its use. Meanwhile, other public chains like Cardano and Polygon have active communities, but their actual usage rates are relatively low. Notably, Rollups, as an on-chain scaling solution, are gaining more attention from users. This survey reveals the diversity and differences in user choices regarding blockchain and layer two networks.
From Ethereum to Rollups: Which Public Chains Are Users' True Favorites?
A couple of days ago, I conducted a survey on blockchain user activity, and the results were surprising:
17% of voters have never used the Ethereum mainnet
34% have never conducted a Bitcoin transaction

"Never Used" Percentage Ranking
Here are seven other key insights from the survey:
The Power of the Cardano Community
First, the Cardano community is very active.
This survey attracted more fans from Cardano than from other blockchains.
There were 6.3K participants from Cardano, while other blockchains had about 2.7K.
However, 64% of respondents have never used Cardano.

The Real Activity Level of Litecoin
Secondly, you are not using Litecoin.
In the past 7 days, only 28 people used Litecoin, while over 97.8% have either never used it or used it a month ago.
This is surprising, as Litecoin ranks fifth in daily active users on DeFiLlama.

The Vitality of the Polygon Community
The Polygon community is also strong.
Voting for Polygon PoS and zkEVM is up to 50% more than other chains.

Polygon vs Polygon zkEVM Usage
This indicates that despite the $ZKS airdrop expectations for zkSync, Polygon zkEVM remains more active than zkSync Era.

The Most Active Blockchains Recently
#BNB > #Solana > #Avalanche
In the past 7 days, the BNB chain had more users compared to Solana and Avalanche.
40% of voters have never used the BNB chain, while the numbers for Solana and Avalanche are higher at 56% and 63%, respectively.
The BNB chain is the most used chain after Ethereum, Polygon PoS, and BTC.

Acceptance of Rollup Technology
Voters also prefer using Optimistic Rollups, second only to Ethereum L1.
In the past 7 days, a quarter of respondents used Arbitrum, followed closely by Base and Optimism.

Ethereum's Dominance
Ethereum remains the dominant player.
Despite the seemingly calm market, 37% of you conducted at least one transaction on the mainnet in the past 7 days.
However, 17% have never used it, possibly due to high gas fees and cheaper alternatives.

Ethereum Network User Survey
Tron's Special Case
Tron was the reason I initially wanted to conduct this vote.
According to Defillama data, it has the most daily active users, but over 70% of voters have never used it.

Tron User Usage
According to comments, Tron is typically used for CEX transfers and as a payment method in developing countries with weak banking systems.
Note that users may not be on Crypto Twitter, which could lead to biased results.
Limitations of the Survey
Overall, this survey does not meet basic scientific research standards.
It only represents a small portion of users interested in DeFi on Crypto Twitter.
Moreover, the more active communities of Cardano and Polygon may lead to underestimation of other communities.
