FBI: Cryptocurrency investment losses in 2023 rose to $3.94 billion, accounting for 86% of the country's investment fraud losses
ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in a recent report pointed out that investment losses involving cryptocurrency increased from $2.57 billion in 2022 to approximately $3.94 billion in 2023, a rise of 53%. Meanwhile, the total amount of all investment losses in 2023 was $4.57 billion. This means that the $3.94 billion in fraud losses related to cryptocurrency accounts for about 86% of all investment fraud losses in the United States.
The FBI emphasized that an increasing number of victims are lured by promised substantial investment returns and fall into cryptocurrency scams. "These scams are designed to lure target audiences with promises of generous investment returns."
