Google is being sued for $5 million in user theft due to malicious cryptocurrency wallet apps on its Play Store
ChainCatcher news, according to Bitcoin.com, a Florida woman named Maria Vaca has sued Google in a California court, claiming that a cryptocurrency wallet application she downloaded from the Google Play Store is malware, resulting in the theft of her $5 million worth of cryptocurrency.
Vaca alleges that the app, named Yobit Pro, exploited Google's marketing strategy of portraying the Play Store as a secure platform, leading to her losses. This lawsuit has raised questions about whether Google was aware of this fraudulent app and how long it remained on the platform.
Vaca's allegations include negligence, estoppel, and violations of California's false advertising and consumer protection laws.
