CESS v0.5.3 Update | Completion of the First Testnet Online Upgrade
On November 14, 2022, around 18:00 Beijing time, CESS completed the upgrade of the Incentive Testnet v0.5.3. This upgrade marks the first online upgrade of the CESS testnet, eliminating the need to reset the CESS test chain. Storage miners and consensus nodes do not need to claim test tokens again from the faucet. Storage miners running v0.5.2 only need to upgrade to the latest image and run it, and the previously certified storage space remains valid.
In this upgrade, CESS introduced the CESS OSS (CESS Object Storage Service) module, which is an object storage service within the CESS decentralized storage network, aimed at providing low-cost, secure, and scalable decentralized data storage services for the Web3 domain. Both individuals and enterprises can use OSS to store, manage, and share data, such as images and videos of NFTs, user data of DApps, programs of DeFi, etc.
The mission of OSS is to return data ownership to data producers. OSS follows the Apache 2.0 open-source protocol, allowing anyone to deploy it anywhere while accessing files stored around the world. In the first phase of the Roadmap, CESS OSS will provide a standard storage method to achieve basic object storage functionalities, including purchasing storage space, creating/deleting storage containers, uploading/downloading/deleting files, and implementing permission verification for user access requests.
The reward rules for the CESS-v0.5.3 Incentive Testnet are as follows:
The CESS Incentive Testnet officially completed the v0.5.3 online upgrade on November 14. Since this upgrade is based on the existing data from v0.5.2, the test rewards will also be calculated in conjunction with CESS-v0.5.2.
Storage Miners
Storage miners from v0.5.2 and v0.5.3 share a total of 8000 points, which means an additional 6000 points on top of the 2000 points from v0.5.2. The final points for each miner are calculated based on the percentage of the miner's effective storage total power (Verified Storage Power). For example, if the total power of the CESS network at the end is 10,000 GiB, and miner A has an effective power of 100 GiB at the end, then miner A can earn 80 points this round.
Note: Only miners with a power greater than 1G at the end of this round will be considered valid miners. The total effective storage power of the network and the effective power of storage miners can be viewed at the link: https://substats.cess.cloud/.
Consensus Miners
The reward details for consensus miners will not be disclosed during the testing period. After the test concludes, the best mysterious rewards will be provided. Friends interested in participating in the consensus miner test can apply for 1 million TCESS test tokens in the CESS official Discord miner-support channel.
The effective power of storage miners will be announced daily on the CESS official Twitter (https://twitter.com/CESS_Storage), with values rounded to the nearest whole number. After the CESS mainnet goes live, rewards will be distributed at a ratio of 1:100 (i.e., 1 point can be exchanged for 100 CESS tokens).
CESS will continue to iterate on the testnet and reward participants in future tests. Additionally, there will be some workshops and offline meetups in the near future. Everyone is welcome to participate enthusiastically and embark on a new journey of decentralized storage and Web3 together!
