Scroll airdrop claims will push Ethereum blob fees to a four-month high

ChainCatcher news, the airdrop frenzy of the Ethereum L2 network Scroll has pushed the Ethereum blob fees up to $4.52, marking the third significant increase in blob fees since the Ethereum Dencun upgrade in March. Crypto data analyst Hildobby posted on X that the rise in blob fees is related to Scroll opening airdrop claims.

According to data from Dune Analytics, on October 22, blob fees reached a four-month high of $4.52.

The significant increase in blob fees has only occurred twice before: once during the surge of L2 activity in July, and once during the launch of Blobscriptions on March 27, a protocol that allows users to directly inscribe data onto blobs.

Analysis indicates that the increase in blob fees is a double-edged sword for Ethereum. More expensive blobs will lead to higher blob gas payments to the network; however, they will also raise the costs of executing transactions and transfers on Ethereum L2.
