The New York Times stated that this is the first meeting between the two since Trump won the U.S. election. The Associated Press reported that Cook has become the latest tech giant executive seeking to connect with the president-elect, joining others such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

During Trump's first term, the relationships of Sam Altman, Zuckerberg, and Bezos with Trump fluctuated, so they are all currently seeking to improve their standing in the eyes of the president-elect.
