ChainCatcher News, the U.S. Department of Efficiency (DOGE) announced in a post on X on Friday that within 80 hours, the department canceled existing or upcoming government contracts worth approximately $420 million, along with two leases. According to BusinessInsider's calculations, this amounts to about $126 million in contracts canceled per day.

If the organization continues to operate at this pace over the 530 days between January 20, 2025, and July 4, 2026, approximately $67 billion in contracts will be canceled each year. (Note: The U.S. DOGE Services Temporary Organization is set to terminate on July 4, 2026.) This would ultimately account for about 3% of Elon Musk's initial goal to cut the federal budget by $2 trillion, or 7% of his revised goal of $1 trillion. Currently, DOGE is primarily focused on DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) contracts and vacant buildings, but it cannot directly alter the federal budget without Congressional approval.
