ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, the hacker Eric Council Jr., who is suspected of hacking the U.S. SEC's social media accounts and posting content, may face a $50,000 fine in a plea agreement.

It is reported that U.S. law enforcement has offered him a plea agreement requiring him to pay $50,000 of his "personal income."

In January 2024, Council gained control of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)'s X account through a SIM swap attack and subsequently posted false information claiming that SEC Chairman Gary Gensler approved a Bitcoin spot ETF.
