Trump's trade advisor: Vietnam's zero tariff proposal is "meaningless"
According to ChainCatcher, as reported by Fortune, Peter Navarro, a senior trade advisor to the Trump administration, stated in an interview with CNBC on Monday that Vietnam's proposal to implement zero tariffs on U.S. imports is "meaningless."
He emphasized that the real issue lies in "non-tariff cheating," including allowing China to evade tariffs through Vietnam, stealing intellectual property, and imposing value-added taxes. Navarro described these proposals as merely "a small first step" and stated that the Trump administration will adhere to the tariff policy announced last week.
Meanwhile, Trump has threatened to impose an additional 50% tariff on China unless the Chinese side cancels its retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports.
