ChainCatcher news, according to Bitcoin.com, on May 13, the New Hampshire Department of Treasury issued a notice reminding residents to be wary of Bitcoin scam calls impersonating government officials.

Scammers use fake official phone numbers, falsely claiming that the victim's identity has been stolen, and induce them to "protect their funds" through Bitcoin transfers.

The state treasury emphasized that government agencies will never ask for payment or transfers in Bitcoin, and advised the public to hang up immediately upon receiving such calls and report them to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center. Just a week before this warning (on May 6), New Hampshire had passed the nation's first "Strategic Bitcoin Reserve" bill, allowing the state treasury to allocate up to 5% of public funds to cryptocurrencies with a market value of over $500 billion, such as Bitcoin.
