Cryptocurrency detective ZachXBT calls for harsher penalties for SIM card swapping fraud
ChainCatcher message, encrypted detective ZachXBT posted, "SIM card swapping/social engineering fraud needs harsher penalties. The laws in Canada/EU are very lenient, allowing threat actors to escape many punishments. Many of them are minors, which enables them to evade even more penalties, and their details are protected (this is why I disclose their full names regardless of age). In 2020, 17-year-old Canadian Cameron Redman helped a SIM card swapping attack gain $37 million, and his full name or photo was never mentioned online until I released it after he got involved in phishing/X ATO."
