Japanese Prime Minister issues election check: Promises a 50% salary increase by 2040
ChainCatcher news, according to Jin Shi reports, as the Japanese Senate election approaches, Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has promised to raise the national wage level and achieve an economic total of 6.9 trillion dollars. "I have instructed senior officials within the party to formulate our highest campaign commitment, aiming for a nominal GDP of 100 trillion yen by 2040 and increasing the average wage by 50% or more from the current level,"
Ishiba said to reporters in Tokyo. This promise comes as Japanese voters are about to "judge" Ishiba's performance as Prime Minister, as his minority government is negotiating with the Trump administration to lower tariffs and battling the rising inflation at home. Last October, his party suffered a crushing defeat in the elections.
