"Federal Reserve's megaphone": Core inflation rate in May will remain low for the third consecutive month
ChainCatcher news, Nick Timiraos, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal known as the "Fed Whisperer," stated that according to economists mapping CPI and PPI to PCE, the core inflation rate in May is expected to remain low for the third consecutive month.
- Core PCE estimate: +0.15% (even lower in May 2024, thus the year-on-year growth rate will rise to 2.6%);
- Overall Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE): +0.12% (affected by base effects, year-on-year increase to 2.3%).
- The U.S. May core PCE price index year-on-year will be announced tonight at 20:30, with many institutions generally expecting a value of +2.6%.
