ChainCatcher news, regarding U.S. President Trump’s claim on July 9 local time via social media that a 50% tariff will be imposed on products imported from Brazil starting August 1, Brazilian President Lula issued a statement in response, stating that the assertion of "the U.S. having a trade deficit with Brazil" is purely false information. Official U.S. statistics show that over the past 15 years, the U.S. has achieved a cumulative surplus of $410 billion in trade of goods and services with Brazil.

In light of this, any unilateral tariff measures will be met with reciprocal responses based on Brazil's "Commercial Reciprocity Law." Lula emphasized that national sovereignty, mutual respect, and the firm defense of the interests of the Brazilian people have always been the core principles of Brazil's handling of international relations.
