Japan's House of Representatives and House of Councillors both face a "minority governance" situation
ChainCatcher News: The counting of votes in the Japanese Senate election has been completed, and the ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito has lost its majority in the Senate.
In this election and by-election of 125 seats, the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito together won 47 seats. Adding the 75 seats that the two parties hold in non-election seats, the ruling coalition has a total of 122 seats, down from 141 seats before the election. Following the loss of a majority in the House of Representatives last year, the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito ruling coalition have also lost their majority in the Senate. This means that both houses of the Japanese Diet are now in a "minority ruling" situation.
