ChainCatcher News: Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stated to the media today (July 23) that reports from Japanese media about his resignation are "completely unfounded."

Ishiba mentioned that he has just concluded meetings with senior LDP advisor Taro Aso, former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, and Fumio Kishida, and that the "issue of resignation was not discussed." Reports regarding his intention to resign are entirely untrue.

Ishiba reiterated that he will remain in office and continue to govern. U.S. financial media analyst Justin Low commented that Ishiba has not formally acknowledged his defeat, but it seems that his fate is already sealed. The ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan will hold an internal meeting on July 31, which is expected to be Ishiba's last straw. The sentiment in Japan's asset markets is clearly mixed, with the stock market rising, bond markets selling off, and the yen fluctuating as it attempts to balance the impacts of trade news and political uncertainty.
