ChainCatcher news, according to an official announcement, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia recently issued a ruling on a significant NFT theft case. Cameron Albert Redman, a 22-year-old man from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, was sentenced to one year in prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft.

Court documents show that in May 2022, Redman and his accomplices illegally accessed the social media accounts of several digital artists, luring users to visit fake websites to authorize NFT transactions, thereby stealing the victims' cryptocurrency and NFT assets. The criminal group caused losses to over 200 victims within a few days, illegally profiting $794,000.

Redman was arrested in Portugal in March 2025 and extradited to the United States. The case was jointly investigated by the FBI's Washington Field Office and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Cyber Crime Investigation Team.
