Data: Indonesia's annual tax revenue from cryptocurrency reaches $364 million, with a user base exceeding 20 million
ChainCatcher news, according to TECHINASIA, data released by the Indonesian Tax Authority shows that as of this year, Indonesia's annual tax revenue from cryptocurrency ranges between 50 billion to 60 billion Indonesian Rupiah (approximately 3.125 million to 3.640 million USD). Among them, in the first year of taxation in 2022, 24.6 billion Rupiah was collected, which decreased to 22 billion Rupiah in 2023, then significantly increased to 62 billion Rupiah in 2024, and so far in 2025, 11.5 billion Rupiah has been collected.
The Indonesian government recently updated its cryptocurrency regulatory policy, raising the tax rate for foreign platforms to 1%, while adjusting the tax rate for domestic platforms to 0.21%. At the same time, the value-added tax for buyers has been eliminated, and crypto assets have been reclassified as financial assets, falling under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority.
Currently, the number of cryptocurrency users in Indonesia has surpassed 20 million, exceeding the number of investors in the local stock market. The tax department pointed out that the price volatility of crypto assets will still affect future tax performance.
