ChainCatcher News, SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce delivered a speech at the Blockchain Science Conference, calling on regulators to protect individuals' rights to conduct private transactions. She made it clear that developers of open-source privacy software should not be held responsible for the actions of others using their code.

In the context of the impending verdict in the case of Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm, Peirce particularly emphasized the importance of privacy protection technology. She pointed out that the rights to self-custody of cryptocurrency and the rights of open-source privacy software developers should be legally protected to ensure that technological innovation is not improperly restricted.

Peirce further compared the current protection of privacy technology to the struggle of cryptographers in the 1990s to defend the private use of strong encryption technology. She stated that these technologies are not only a safeguard for personal privacy but also an important force driving social development.
