ChainCatcher news, the U.S. Department of Justice has filed a civil forfeiture lawsuit against Bitcoin (BTC) worth over $5 million. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced that these funds are allegedly the ill-gotten gains from multiple SIM swap attacks targeting victims across the United States.

The complaint states that these funds trace back to the theft of cryptocurrency wallets belonging to five victims and unauthorized cryptocurrency transfers, which occurred between October 29, 2022, and March 21, 2023.
