Bloomberg: Crypto.com Faces Unreported Attack, Resulting in User Personal Data Breach
ChainCatcher News, a recent report from Bloomberg Businessweek reveals that the cryptocurrency exchange platform Crypto.com suffered a previously unreported attack, where a teenager and his accomplices accessed employee accounts.
The report focuses on Noah Urban, a member of the cybercrime group "Scattered Spider." Urban specializes in phishing attacks targeting employees of telecom, tech, and cryptocurrency companies, aiming to obtain sensitive data for himself and his accomplices. One of Urban's successful attacks was carried out with the help of another hacker named Jack, and the two managed to gain access to an employee's account at Crypto.com. This attack occurred sometime before March 2023, when Urban became a target of an FBI raid, resulting in the seizure of $4 million worth of cryptocurrency, along with hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry. A spokesperson for Crypto.com stated that the data breach affected the personal information of "a very small number of individuals" and did not involve any customer funds.
