Interpol arrests 19 suspects in Africa for illegal use of virtual assets and seizes $260 million in terrorism-related funds
ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, Interpol and the African Police Organization arrested 83 people in a joint operation against terrorist financing and its support for illegal activities across six African countries, with 19 individuals arrested for "illegal use" of virtual assets.
During the two-month operation, the authorities of the participating countries screened over 15,000 relevant individuals and entities, uncovering approximately $260 million in fiat and virtual currencies potentially linked to terrorist activities. About $600,000 has been seized so far, and further investigations are underway to trace and recover more assets.
