During Fed Chair Powell's nearly eight-year tenure, such a degree of division is almost unprecedented. Officials have disagreed on whether persistent inflation or a sluggish labor market poses a greater threat. Although investors still believe there is a high likelihood of the Fed cutting rates at the next meeting, this division complicates what initially seemed like a feasible plan.
