CME Group's cryptocurrency product trading volume in 2025 increased by 139%, reaching a record high
According to PR Newswire, the latest data from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange shows that the average daily trading volume of its cryptocurrency products surged by 139% in 2025, reaching 278,000 contracts (valued at approximately $12 billion), setting a new historical high.
Micro Ether futures became the best-performing product, with an average daily trading volume of 144,000 contracts; Micro Bitcoin futures had an average daily trading volume of 75,000 contracts; Ether futures had an average daily trading volume of 19,000 contracts, all setting annual records.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, the performance of cryptocurrency products was even stronger, with an average daily trading volume of 379,000 contracts (valued at $13.3 billion), among which Micro Ether futures trading volume grew by 164% year-on-year. The average daily trading volume of cryptocurrencies in December also reached a historical high of 339,000 contracts.
