According to Cointelegraph, Aave founder Stani Kulechov stated that by 2050, DeFi could benefit from tokenizing $50 trillion worth of "abundant assets" (such as solar energy), thereby opening up a new category of on-chain collateral.

Data from RWA.xyz shows that nearly $25 billion of real-world assets have already been tokenized on-chain, but they primarily exist in the form of U.S. Treasury bonds, stocks, commodities, private credit, and real estate.

Kulechov expects these scarce assets to continue to grow, but "the greatest impact of tokenization can be achieved through the tokenization of abundant assets." By 2050, solar energy alone could account for $15-30 trillion.
