Coinbase launches the pound stablecoin tGBP

According to the official announcement, Coinbase has announced the launch of the fiat-backed stablecoin tGBP starting in 2026. Users can buy, sell, exchange, send, and receive tGBP through the Coinbase App and Coinbase Exchange.

It has been disclosed that the issuer of tGBP, BCP Technologies, is registered with the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and is participating in the FCA's regulatory sandbox. Coinbase stated that this launch is part of its strategy to support more local currency stablecoins in its international expansion.
