Luxembourg confirms that investment funds can issue shares natively on distributed ledgers

Digital asset media Generation Infinity (Genfinity) reported on October 2, 2026, that Luxembourg has confirmed that investment funds can issue shares natively on distributed ledgers, with relevant units existing only in token form. The account also stated that Luxembourg is the largest investment fund jurisdiction in Europe and the second-largest fund center in the world.

The above confirmation corresponds to the first version of the "FAQ - Tokenisation" released the same day by the Luxembourg Financial Supervisory Authority (CSSF). The document clarifies that Luxembourg collective investment undertakings (UCI) can use distributed ledger technology to issue native shares or stocks that exist only in token form, but the operational model must comply with the applicable regulatory framework. Issuing on a distributed ledger does not determine the legal form of the underlying securities, and the relevant shares or stocks can be issued in registered or paperless form.
