Stripe acquires the Valora wallet team to further expand its stablecoin service business
According to The Block, payment giant Stripe is expanding its cryptocurrency business by acquiring the team of cryptocurrency startup Valora. Valora founder Jackie Bona announced on Wednesday that the team will join Stripe "in pursuit of expanding access to the global financial system."The terms of the deal were not disclosed, including how many Valora employees will join Stripe. Valora was founded in 2021 and developed a mobile self-custody cryptocurrency wallet app, specifically targeting stablecoins on the CELO blockchain. According to Bona, Stripe's acquisition does not seem to include the intellectual property of Valora's technology, and the app will "continue to exist by returning to its original home at cLabs." Previously, Stripe announced that its stablecoin payment feature will go live on December 12, supporting Ethereum, Base, and Polygon networks.
