first_img Tencent secretly developed the Personal Agent product Handy Bot

According to "Dujia," Tencent is secretly developing a Personal Agent product called "Handy Bot" and plans to launch an independent app. Currently, the product has quietly launched a service account on WeChat, with the description "Your Personal AI Agent." Since the product is still in the internal testing phase, specific information is subject to official announcements. The report states that the industry is currently hotly discussing the narrative of Personal Agents, with Meta's recently launched Muse pushing the popularity of consumer-grade intelligent agents to new heights. Unlike traditional chatbots that are conversation-driven, Personal Agents are centered around human core state boundaries, where AI has a long-term operational environment and can receive macro goals to continuously advance tasks in the background. Meta Muse assigns each user an independent Secure VM (Virtual Machine) for security, isolating browser and web operations for tasks such as price comparison shopping, email processing, and itinerary monitoring.Domestic manufacturers are also entering the pre-research phase. The Alibaba Qianwen team proposed creating a Personal Agent for users at the Yunqi Conference, and ByteDance's Doubao has also been reported to be developing a personal assistant product, previously codenamed "Spell." The industry believes that implementation needs to balance model task planning capabilities, ecosystem tool openness, and compliance with privacy boundaries.

On September 29, according to a report by Phoenix Technology citing Sina Technology, Doubao, a subsidiary of ByteDance, is advancing its product planning in the personal assistant direction. Insiders revealed that continuing the strategy of last year's Doubao mobile assistant in the personal agent direction, internal testing of related exploratory products began in April this year, codenamed Spell, mainly led by the Doubao mobile assistant team, but has not been officially announced due to reasons such as the release of the Doubao mobile phone. The insider stated that as personal assistant products like Muse and Instinct have gained attention overseas, Doubao is also accelerating the external release of personal agent capabilities, planning to integrate the Spell project more deeply with Doubao products. The new product will be jointly managed by the Spell project and the Doubao dialogue team, and it is expected to be launched externally soon. According to "Big Factory Daily," the Doubao product line has received a new task during the Mid-Autumn Festival, requiring a rapid reconstruction of a product that benchmarks Muse, with a beta version developed by September 30 for internal testing, involving the entire Doubao product line and multiple upstream and downstream teams in this holiday development.Previously, the technical preview version of the Doubao mobile assistant made its debut in December 2025, first launched on the ZTE Nubia M153 engineering prototype. In September 2026, the consumer version was officially released, landing on the Nubia NaviX Ultra model. Reports indicate that Spell can be seen as Doubao's extension of the personal agent capabilities accumulated on mobile devices into an independent application form.

first_img Meta's Muse AI assistant reads users' private information and falsely reports the method of access

Meta's personal AI assistant Muse has been accused of reading users' private iMessages without permission and providing false explanations about how it accesses this information. Technology columnist Jason Aten installed the assistant on his iPhone and Mac when Muse launched on September 8 and explicitly refused to grant it access to personal data such as information and calendars.A few days later, Muse sent Aten a notification suggesting he write a column about the new iPhone that he had just discussed with his podcast partner, also mentioning a deadline reminder from the editor. Aten asked Muse how it knew this, and it replied that the Mac application only forwards notification previews and does not involve the content of messages. In reality, Muse had synchronized over 187,000 records from the local private information database on the Mac, an operation that requires full disk access permissions on macOS.David Singleton, head of Meta's superintelligent lab, responded on Threads that this feature requires users to actively choose to opt-in. Aten denied ever turning on that switch and stated that Meta had not answered related questions. Amazon has banned Muse from shopping on its site, stating that the assistant did not indicate its AI identity while browsing and seemed capable of capturing and storing user credentials. Since its launch, Muse has been downloaded over 2.5 million times, with its promotion emphasizing user control over access.

Meta rolled back Muse for phone call testing, with some calls completed by real people

According to internal information obtained by 404 Media and Reuters, after Meta expanded the Muse "Call for You" testing, it was revealed that some calls were actually completed by real people. Muse can transfer tasks to real contractors at call centers, who then make calls on behalf of users and fulfill requests. Some testers only realized there was human intervention after the call ended.Meta adopted this approach mainly to improve success rates. Internal testing showed that the success rate of phone tasks could reach 95% to 98% with human intervention, higher than pure AI. Some merchants hang up directly when they hear the other party is AI, and there are also testers in the community who reported that merchants hung up after Muse identified itself as an AI assistant.Human intervention raises privacy concerns, as users originally believed their information was only shared with AI, but it may actually be seen by outsourced personnel. Some people within Meta also questioned that providing privacy training to contractors does not equate to a real safety mechanism. A Meta official later admitted that failing to inform testers in advance about human intervention was a mistake, and this feature has been rolled back. Meta stated that the phone function is still in testing and will only be officially launched after ensuring safety, privacy, and clear communication.
