American actress Sydney Sweeney's X account was hacked and used to promote a meme coin of the same name

2024-07-03 11:37:09

ChainCatcher news, according to Cointelegraph, American actress Sydney Sweeney's X account was hacked, and tweets promoting a cryptocurrency named after her were posted; these tweets have since been deleted.

The Solana-based token SWEENEY accumulated over $10 million in trading volume within two hours of its launch on July 2, thanks to multiple promotional tweets from Sweeney's X account.

Starting at 6:15 PM UTC, the price of SWEENEY dropped nearly 90% in just over an hour, although it has since rebounded. DEX Screener data shows its market cap is currently $1.2 million, down from a peak of $3.85 million.

The token appears to be linked to an administrator of a Telegram channel (shared on Sweeney's X account) that seems responsible for the hack.
