A vacant block was mined at a height of 857116 for Bitcoin
ChainCatcher news, according to mempool data, miners have mined an empty block at Bitcoin height 857116 (i.e., the block only contains a single transaction for the block reward, the Coinbase transaction).
Miners pack empty blocks for economic reasons; this is the wisest choice for them. To make the most of this time for mining and to avoid conflicts with transactions packed in the parent block, miners cannot fill the block with transactions, meaning they can only attempt to mine empty blocks.
