Google is in talks to increase its investment in Anthropic, which may be valued at over $350 billion
According to a report by Business Insider, Google is in preliminary talks with the artificial intelligence company Anthropic to plan further investment. Sources say that the new round of financing could value Anthropic at over $35 billion. The deal may include strategic investments (with Google providing more cloud computing services to Anthropic), convertible bonds, or a new round of priced financing set to launch early next year.
The New York Times reported in March this year, citing legal documents, that Google has invested over $3 billion in Anthropic, holding about 14% of the shares. The latest negotiations come as Anthropic competes with its main rival OpenAI in a multi-trillion dollar race for dominance in generative artificial intelligence models. Meanwhile, the tech giant camp is becoming polarized: Amazon and Google support Anthropic, while Microsoft and NVIDIA have invested billions of dollars in OpenAI.
