A man from Detroit was sentenced to 9 years in prison for donating Bitcoin to the extremist group ISIS
According to Decrypt, a Detroit man has admitted to concealing Bitcoin donations originally intended to fund the Islamic State (ISIS) and has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison.
According to authorities, the man used privacy-focused VPNs and encryption software to obscure Bitcoin transactions. As the man was convicted, the federal government is intensifying its efforts to combat the use of cryptocurrency to fund extremist organizations.
