White House Chief Cryptocurrency Advisor: The Bitcoin seized in the Samourai case has not been sold
According to a report by The Block, earlier this month it was announced that the U.S. Marshals Service has sold over $6 million worth of Bitcoin that was paid to the Department of Justice by Samourai Wallet developers Rodriguez and Hill as part of a plea agreement.
Patrick Witt, Executive Director of the White House Digital Assets Advisory Committee, stated that confirmation has been received from the U.S. Department of Justice that, under Executive Order 14233, the seized digital assets from Samourai Wallet have not been liquidated and will not be liquidated. They will remain on the U.S. government's balance sheet as part of strategic business rules. The executive order stipulates that the Bitcoin in the reserves will come from funds seized due to criminal or civil asset forfeiture, and the Bitcoin deposited into the reserves cannot be sold.
