CFTC issues supplemental consent order against former Alameda CEO and FTX co-founder
According to the official announcement from the CFTC, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that the Federal Court for the Southern District of New York has issued a supplemental consent order against former Alameda Research CEO Caroline Ellison and former Alameda/FTX co-founder Gary Wang. Ellison has been imposed a 5-year trading ban and a 10-year registration ban, while Wang has been imposed a 5-year trading ban and an 8-year registration ban, with the bans effective from the date of the initial consent order on December 23, 2022.
Given that both individuals provided substantial cooperation in the CFTC investigation and related criminal proceedings—including pleading guilty in the criminal case and jointly bearing a $11.02 billion criminal forfeiture order—the CFTC stated that it is not currently seeking additional restitution, recovery, or civil penalties, and this supplemental order formally concludes the CFTC's enforcement actions against the two.
