Hong Kong Monetary Authority: Three new regulatory measures for investment accounts of mainland investors, with account opening verification retroactive to January 2023

According to a report by the Financial Associated Press, in response to the issue of "some banks in the Hong Kong region requiring a declaration to open investment accounts," the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) responded today that the relevant regulatory requirements were issued to all recognized institutions on May 22.Materials provided by the HKMA indicate that registered institutions must take three additional measures when opening and managing investment accounts for mainland investors, including:Closing investment accounts opened using suspicious or forged documents, identifying customer investment accounts that have used suspicious or forged documents since January 2023 or during any other period specified by the HKMA; relevant documents include identification documents.Closing investment accounts with zero balance that have been inactive, specifically referring to investment accounts held by mainland investors that have had no asset balance as of May 22, 2026 (reference date), and have had no activity initiated by the customer in the 12 months prior to the reference date. When opening new investment accounts, obtaining a written declaration from the mainland investor confirming that all funds used to support investment activities and related settlements come from legal sources outside mainland China.Relevant documents show that the newly added additional regulatory measures apply only to investment accounts, including investment accounts within comprehensive bank accounts; non-investment functions (such as regular savings, time deposits, payments, loans, and credit cards) are not within the scope of these measures. Additionally, the applicable subjects of these additional measures are individual customers and do not apply to corporate or institutional clients.

Data: The daily net inflow of the US spot XRP ETF reached 25.8 million USD, setting a new high since January

Data shows that the five spot XRP ETFs listed in the U.S. recorded a total net inflow of $25.8 million on Monday, setting a record for the largest single-day fund inflow since January 5, 2026, with a cumulative net inflow now reaching $1.35 billion. Among them, Franklin Templeton's XRPZ saw an inflow of $13.6 million, Bitwise XRP ETF saw an inflow of $7.6 million, and Grayscale GXRP saw an inflow of $4.6 million.Reports indicate that this round of fund inflows is related to several recent developments by Ripple. Ripple recently announced the completion of a $200 million debt financing to expand its institutional brokerage platform, Ripple Prime. Additionally, last week, Ripple, in collaboration with JPMorgan Chase, Mastercard, and Ondo Finance, completed a tokenized settlement test for U.S. Treasury bonds on the XRP Ledger, with the redemption process taking less than 5 seconds. Meanwhile, Ripple also announced a "four-phase roadmap," planning to achieve a "quantum-resistant" upgrade for the XRP Ledger by 2028, including an emergency mechanism to recover funds through zero-knowledge proofs in extreme situations.Market analysis suggests that as the application of XRP increases in cross-border payments, institutional settlements, and tokenized assets, its ETF demand is gradually shifting from pure speculation to an infrastructure narrative. Despite the continuous inflow of ETF funds, the price of XRP has still fallen by about 39% over the past six months, with the current price around $1.47, significantly down from its historical high of about $3.65 in July 2025.

Spark: The delisting of rsETH assets in January had caused strong dissatisfaction among ETH leveraged users, but it has now been proven to be a prudent strategy

The head of the Spark Protocol strategy, monetsupply.eth, posted on platform X stating that in January of this year, low-usage assets like rsETH were removed and collateral and functionality were continuously tightened. This move sparked strong dissatisfaction among "ETH leveraged" users at the time.Additionally, Spark has long set a high upper limit on interest rates in the ETH lending market, transferring some business and revenue to Aave over the past year (where its ETH borrowing rate once dropped to 10% or below). However, in the current market crisis environment, this strategy has proven to be more prudent. Currently, SparkLend still maintains sufficient ETH withdrawal liquidity, while Aave has experienced liquidity tightness and even "lock-up" situations in the Ethereum mainnet and multi-chain markets like Arbitrum and Base.monetsupply.eth further warned that since ETH is the core collateral asset, when market utilization reaches 100%, collateral liquidation will not be able to execute normally. The depletion of liquidity not only affects the depositor experience but may also pose systemic risks. In the current situation of insufficient liquidity in Aave, a 15%-20% drop in ETH prices could lead to significant bad debt accumulation (in addition to the potential impact of the rsETH incident).
