Data: The meme coin "Behemoth" on the BSC chain briefly surpassed a market value of 2.7 million USD, with a 24H increase of 8251%

According to GMGN data, the meme coin "Behemoth" on the BSC chain briefly surpassed a market cap of 2.7 million USD, currently reported at 1.04 million USD, with a 24H increase of 8251%. Meme coin prices are highly volatile, and investors should participate with caution.Previously, a developer announced the completion of the first real on-chain 4-bit processor (CPU) on the BNB Chain, which consists of 2251 logic gates, including NAND gates and flip-flops, and has been verified cycle by cycle. Its performance specifications are comparable to the 1971 Intel 4004 processor. This on-chain CPU is named "Behemoth" and has successfully run Fibonacci sequence calculations: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13. Due to the processor's operating rhythm being synchronized with the BNB Chain's block generation, it executes a cycle every 0.45 seconds, with a current operating frequency of about 2.22Hz, referred to by the developer as "possibly the slowest CPU in the universe."The developer stated that in the future, a complete protocol will be made public, allowing anyone to create their own on-chain processors based on this protocol, and supporting inter-calls between processors to build more complex on-chain computing systems in a "building block" manner. Regarding this project, Binance co-founder CZ responded to inquiries about its practical application scenarios: "What is the use case?" which sparked community discussions.

first_img Etherealize CEO warns Wall Street about the revival of alliance chains: Fragmenting the ecosystem will undermine blockchain interoperability

Vitalik Buterin and Etherealize co-founder and CEO Vivek Raman, supported by the Ethereum Foundation, warned that Wall Street's renewed enthusiasm for private, permissioned "consortium chains" is recreating a fragmented system, undermining the interoperability and liquidity that blockchain should bring, akin to "race to the bottom." He pointed out the rise of gated networks such as Digital Asset's Canton Network, Circle's ARC, and Stripe's Tempo, reminiscent of the R3 and Hyperledger consortium chains 2.0 from years past, where institutions will ultimately find themselves in a situation of competing consortium chains, needing permission or membership to participate.Raman emphasized that the Ethereum mainnet should serve as a globally open, permissionless foundation layer similar to HTTP, where institutions can overlay permission and privacy features at the application layer or L2 to achieve maximum interoperability and liquidity. Etherealize is committed to attracting TradFi to embrace Ethereum, which has already hosted billions of dollars in tokenized assets and supported a large amount of DeFi settlements. The company received seed funding from Buterin and the foundation in January 2025 and completed a $40 million Series A financing in the same year.He cited examples such as BlackRock's new fund based on Ethereum, stating that once regulations are clear, institutional funds are more inclined towards open network tracks that are not proprietary; choosing consortium chains would require paying the consortium and being bound by its rules, with incentives for non-early members quickly fading. Christian Catalini, founder of the MIT Cryptoeconomics Lab, also pointed out that if permissioned networks driven by enterprise sales become mainstream, some competitive benefits of blockchain may not be realized.

BNB Chain will launch the Pasteur hard fork on August 25

BNB Smart Chain (BSC) announced that the Pasteur hard fork will officially launch on the mainnet at 10:30 AM Beijing time on August 25 (02:30 UTC on August 25). Node operators need to upgrade to client version v1.7.7 in advance. This upgrade includes three improvements: BEP-682, BEP-695, and BEP-675, focusing on enhancing cross-chain security, validator governance mechanisms, and network throughput capacity.Among them, BEP-682 will strengthen the cross-chain bridge validation mechanism of the BNB Chain, preventing the risk of permission bypass caused by duplicate calculations of validator signatures, thus improving the security of cross-chain asset transfers. BEP-695 optimizes the validator key rotation mechanism, ensuring that old keys no longer retain management permissions after exiting, while also fixing potential vulnerabilities related to penalties and governance voting. In terms of performance, BEP-675 reduces the time consumption caused by validators repeatedly executing transactions by optimizing the block construction process. In the internal QANet testing environment of the BNB Chain, this solution increased throughput from 1237 TPS to 2324 TPS, while maintaining a block time of 450 milliseconds and a block limit of 100 million Gas, with the average Gas usage per block rising from 46.35 million to 84.15 million.BNB Chain stated that this upgrade is primarily aimed at validators and block builders, intending to provide greater capacity during network peak periods and to promote the throughput expansion goals outlined in the BNB Chain roadmap for the second half of 2026.

AC: DeFi no longer exists; only on-chain finance remains

The founder of the DeFi platform Flying Tulip and creator of the Fantom Network, Andre Cronje, stated that most DeFi protocols are no longer truly decentralized, with only a few niche areas still qualifying as DeFi. He believes that DeFi has evolved into "on-chain finance" or "open finance."He pointed out that true DeFi should possess characteristics such as decentralization, immutability, and the absence of intermediaries, while the intermediaries in most current protocols have become companies, taking on the roles of decision-makers and risk committees typical of traditional financial institutions. Cronje stated that this does not mean that true DeFi no longer exists, as some protocols are still innovating.Data from DefiLlama shows that the total value locked in DeFi has dropped from $167 billion at the beginning of October 2022 to $75 billion at the time of the original publication, a decline of more than half. The European Central Bank (ECB) analyzed Aave, MakerDAO, Ampleforth, and Uniswap in a working paper released in March, finding that based on snapshots of holdings from November 2022 and May 2023, the top 100 addresses holding governance tokens in these protocols control over 80% of the token supply. The ECB thus questioned the degree of decentralization of the relevant DAOs and whether they should continue to be regarded as "fully decentralized" services not subject to the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
