Financial Times: JPMorgan Chase terminated banking services for Polymarket last year, but is still vying for its IPO underwriting opportunity

According to the Financial Times, JPMorgan Chase terminated its banking services for Polymarket last October due to regulatory concerns, requiring the company to seek new banking institutions. Previously, Polymarket was banned from providing services to U.S. customers after the Commodity Futures Trading Commission took enforcement action in 2022.Currently, Polymarket has partnered with a new bank, but the specific name has not been disclosed. JPMorgan Chase still maintains business dealings with Polymarket and invited its CEO Shayne Coplan to participate in a private banking client meeting held in Miami this February, where he spoke alongside former NFL player Tom Brady. Polymarket stated that the two parties continue to maintain a close and active relationship in various areas, including multiple entities, operational integration, and customer fund flow management.Since 2026, prediction market platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi have faced legal actions from multiple U.S. states regarding their alleged operation as illegal sports bookmakers, while the relevant platforms argue that they operate as exchanges facilitating trades between buyers and sellers, rather than as bookmakers. According to user aggregated data, the nominal trading volume of prediction markets has exceeded $250 billion since 2026.Meanwhile, Polymarket is seeking over $1 billion in financing, with a target valuation of $20 billion, more than doubling from the approximately $8 billion valuation during the last round of financing in 2025.

first_img Arkham: Bitmine ETH holdings are approaching the 5% target, and after reaching the target, it is most likely to slow down buying rather than stop

According to Arkham Research, Bitmine, the world's largest Ethereum treasury company, currently holds approximately 5.81 million ETH, valued at nearly $11 billion. After 14 months of continuous accumulation, its holdings have reached 4.8% of the ETH supply, achieving about 96% of its publicly set acquisition target of 5%. Unlike Bitcoin treasury companies such as Strategy, Bitmine has used over 5 million ETH for staking to earn interest, with an annualized staking income estimated at approximately $257 million based on a yield of about 2.63%.According to Arkham's analysis, the most likely scenario for the trajectory after reaching the 5% target is that Bitmine will slow down its purchases. On-chain data shows that its acquisition pace has already slowed this year, and after surpassing 5%, it may shift towards balance sheet management and maximizing staking returns. The second most likely scenario is to continue buying at the same pace. Considering that Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat, who leads this strategy, has consistently been bullish, it is possible that they will continue to increase their holdings after breaking through 5%. The least likely scenario is to completely stop buying. If this largest enterprise-level ETH buyer in the market exits the demand side, it may temporarily weaken bullish sentiment, but even without new additions, its staking holdings will still grow passively through network rewards.

hot_img Samsung Electro-Mechanics' customer evaluation for glass substrates encounters obstacles, delaying equipment investment schedule

According to The Elec, Samsung Electro-Mechanics' investment schedule for semiconductor glass substrates has been delayed due to bottlenecks in the reliability assessment of customer prototypes. As a result, the construction schedule for the production line of GlaSSEM, the glass core joint venture between Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Dongyu Fine Chem, has also been postponed, and the timeline for ordering related equipment has become uncertain. The report states that GlaSSEM has failed to communicate the equipment order schedule to its partner manufacturers. Previous orders have been postponed from December last year to March and June this year, and this has happened more than three times. After June, no further schedule guidance has been provided. Industry insiders believe that the main reason is that global communication semiconductor customers have not passed the reliability assessment certification for glass substrate prototypes. Samsung Electro-Mechanics is still producing prototypes at its Sejong plant, and most of the suppliers for key processes required for building the mass production line, such as deposition, etching, laser drilling, and inspection, have already been selected.Since the prototypes need to be remade and resubmitted, the originally planned investment schedule will inevitably be further delayed. Samsung Electro-Mechanics had set a target for mass production in the second half of 2027 when establishing GlaSSEM earlier last month, but during last month's financial report meeting, this timeline was adjusted to 2028, and now the mass production time is expected to be further postponed.

hot_img Changxin Storage's DDR5 yield has exceeded 90%, with varying attitudes among PC manufacturers: Dell has banned it, HP has restricted it to China, while Asus and Acer have already adopted it

According to reports from Fast Technology, Changxin Memory's 17nm DDR5 chip yield has surpassed 90%, which is only about 2 percentage points lower than Samsung's same-generation products at 92% to 93%, marking a technical indicator that has entered the global first tier. Several major PC manufacturers have completed certification for Changxin DRAM chips around mid-year and have begun to incorporate them in small batches into certain laptops. The strategies adopted by different brands show significant differences: Dell has completely banned the use of Changxin chips; HP restricts their use to the mainland China market; Acer and ASUS have incorporated them into models aimed at the mainland China and emerging markets. Currently, the impact of Changxin products on the overall market prices of the three major memory giants remains limited, mainly because Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron are currently more inclined to supply LPDDR5, while Changxin's current strategic focus is on expanding DDR5 shipments. Executives from PC companies have stated that the three major manufacturers hold over 90% of the global DRAM market share, and large-scale adoption must be approached with high caution. Currently, the number and usage of models using Changxin chips are quite limited.

hot_img The U.S. Department of Commerce invests $874 million in seven semiconductor companies, betting on seven underlying technologies for the post-GPU era

On July 29, the U.S. Department of Commerce signed letters of intent with seven companies, totaling up to $874 million, to support seven "post-GPU era" underlying technology routes such as CPO, ferroelectric memory, and 3D packaging in the form of equity investments. This marks a shift in the U.S. chip strategy from "capacity reshoring" to "technology route selection."The seven companies and their technology directions include: GlobalFoundries (CPO silicon photonic integration, $300 million), Kepler Computing (ferroelectric 3D memory, $245 million), Multibeam (multi-electron beam direct-write lithography and advanced packaging, $140 million), Extropic (thermodynamic sampling unit TSU, $75 million), Thintronics (ultra-low loss dielectric materials, $50 million), Aeluma (large-size phosphorus-free optoelectronic device substrates, $30 million), and OBSIDIA (hardware zero-trust chip anti-counterfeiting, $34 million). All companies are required to provide non-controlling minority equity to the U.S. government. This move shows that the funding usage of the CHIPS Act is shifting from subsidizing wafer fabs to directly holding equity in cutting-edge technology companies with national capital, in order to secure rule-making authority in the post-Moore era.
