According to CoinDesk, the game public chain behind Axie Infinity, Ronin, will migrate from an independent sidechain to an Ethereum Layer 2 network through a hard fork on May 12, which is expected to result in approximately 10 hours of network downtime, during which all transfers, swaps, contract interactions, and on-chain gaming activities will be paused. This upgrade will introduce the OP Stack architecture and the "Proof of Distribution" allocation model, rewarding builders based on their actual contributions to the network, while significantly reducing the RON inflation rate from over 20% to less than 1%. Additionally, 90 million RON originally allocated for staking rewards will be moved to the treasury fund, and the market transaction fee will be increased from 0.5% to 1.25% to enhance security, scalability, and reshape the token economy.

The gaming public chain Ronin announced that it will migrate to Ethereum Layer 2 on May 12, during which there will be an approximately 10-hour downtime for on-chain operations. Normal operations will resume after the migration is completed, and its underlying architecture will be built on the OP Stack, with EigenDA integrated as the data availability layer. It is recommended that users unstake RON before the migration date, or the system will automatically unstake for users after the migration is completed. The core goal of this migration is to allow Ronin to leverage Ethereum's security, data availability, and finality capabilities, while injecting mature on-chain gaming infrastructure into the Ethereum ecosystem. As the underlying network for well-known on-chain games like Axie Infinity and Pixels, this move is seen as an important milestone in its ecological development. After the migration is completed, the annual inflation rate of RON will be reduced from over 20% to below 1%, and the treasury will gain continuous income from staking, Sequencer net revenue, and Marketplace fees (which will increase from 0.5% to 1.25%).

Binance is expected to suspend token deposits and withdrawals on the Ronin network at 22:00 on May 12, 2026, to support its network migration. Users can continue to trade the tokens supported by the above network, and deposit and withdrawal services will reopen after the migration is completed.

Ronin announced an adjustment plan for its economic model, stating that as the network is expected to transition to Layer 2 by the end of March, passive staking rewards and the original validator system will be eliminated, replaced by a "proof of allocation" mechanism that provides targeted incentives to builders who make actual contributions to the ecosystem. The announcement also stated that the Ronin treasury will enhance its financial strength by increasing revenue sources such as transaction sharing from Ronin Market, sorter earnings, and new income from ecological applications and game tokens. In terms of governance, control of the treasury will shift from validators to a voting mechanism based on RON token weight, which will be used to review buybacks, investments, and DeFi-related activities.
