Harvard Fund disclosed holdings of $2.21 billion in SpaceX shares, while Bitcoin ETF holdings remained unchanged

Harvard University's latest 13F filing shows that as of June 30, it still holds 3,044,600 shares of BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF IBIT, valued at approximately $101.4 million, with the number of shares unchanged from the end of the first quarter, ending a previous trend of two consecutive quarters of reduction. Harvard reduced its IBIT holdings by 21% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and by another 43% in the first quarter of 2026.Currently, IBIT accounts for about 2.4% of Harvard's disclosed $4.26 billion U.S. stock portfolio. Its gold-related product holdings are even more valuable; as of the end of the second quarter, the combined value of iShares Gold Trust (IAU) and SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) is approximately $171.2 million. Harvard has previously liquidated its position in BlackRock's spot Ethereum ETF, valued at $86.8 million, and did not add any new Ethereum-related positions in the second quarter.Harvard University's largest holding is SpaceX, totaling 12,935,100 shares, valued at $2.21 billion, making it the largest single stock holding disclosed in the filing. The total value of U.S. stock assets disclosed by Harvard this time is approximately $4.3 billion, meaning that the SpaceX holding accounts for 52%.Among other institutions, the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority each maintained their holdings of 14,721,900 shares and 8,218,700 shares of IBIT, respectively, with a combined value of approximately $764 million. JPMorgan increased its IBIT holdings from about 8.3 million shares to 10.4 million shares; Morgan Stanley reduced its holdings from 17.3 million shares to about 16.5 million shares, a decrease of 4.5%.

Vitalik Buterin and Etherealize co-founder and CEO Vivek Raman, supported by the Ethereum Foundation, warned that Wall Street's renewed enthusiasm for private, permissioned "consortium chains" is recreating a fragmented system, undermining the interoperability and liquidity that blockchain should bring, akin to "race to the bottom." He pointed out the rise of gated networks such as Digital Asset's Canton Network, Circle's ARC, and Stripe's Tempo, reminiscent of the R3 and Hyperledger consortium chains 2.0 from years past, where institutions will ultimately find themselves in a situation of competing consortium chains, needing permission or membership to participate.Raman emphasized that the Ethereum mainnet should serve as a globally open, permissionless foundation layer similar to HTTP, where institutions can overlay permission and privacy features at the application layer or L2 to achieve maximum interoperability and liquidity. Etherealize is committed to attracting TradFi to embrace Ethereum, which has already hosted billions of dollars in tokenized assets and supported a large amount of DeFi settlements. The company received seed funding from Buterin and the foundation in January 2025 and completed a $40 million Series A financing in the same year.He cited examples such as BlackRock's new fund based on Ethereum, stating that once regulations are clear, institutional funds are more inclined towards open network tracks that are not proprietary; choosing consortium chains would require paying the consortium and being bound by its rules, with incentives for non-early members quickly fading. Christian Catalini, founder of the MIT Cryptoeconomics Lab, also pointed out that if permissioned networks driven by enterprise sales become mainstream, some competitive benefits of blockchain may not be realized.

The leak of French tax data affects nearly 678,000 people, which may exacerbate the risk of violent attacks against cryptocurrency holders

The French Minister of Finance confirmed that hackers breached the French Public Finance Directorate system at the end of June and stole personal and corporate taxpayer data. According to the platform FrenchBreaches, which tracks cyberattacks in France, this incident affected approximately 678,437 people, equivalent to about 1% of the French population, but the exact number is still under investigation and has not been finally confirmed. The leaked data reportedly includes sensitive information such as names, birth dates, home addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, tax identification information, and income data. Among them, nearly 27,000 individuals had tax incomes of at least 100,000 euros, 386 exceeded 1 million euros, and another 8 exceeded 10 million euros. Reports indicate that the database has been sold on the dark web market for thousands of euros. The attackers, calling themselves ZeroBytes, claimed they extracted the relevant records using an internal search tool, which was only discovered later when access was cut off. This incident has raised concerns in the cryptocurrency industry, as there has been a noticeable increase in "wrench attack" violent robbery incidents targeting cryptocurrency holders in France in recent years. If high-income individuals' addresses and contact information are leaked, it could provide criminals with a more precise target list.
