first_img Central Daily News: Former CEO of Changxin Storage accused of pressuring for Samsung technology

According to a report by South Korea's "JoongAng Ilbo," a statement obtained from a former head of equipment investment at Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT), who has a background at Samsung Electronics, reveals that the former CEO of CXMT, Wang Ningguo, summoned the Korean team, including the individual in question, from October to December 2016. He demanded they bring back Samsung Electronics' Process Recipe Plan (PRP) and equipment information, threatening to report them to the South Korean government if they failed to do so, and warned them to verify their connections and not to lie. The individual stated that they felt scared at the time. The report mentioned that CXMT's management referred to Samsung Electronics as "Huangshan."After working at Samsung Electronics for 28 years, the individual joined CXMT and was prosecuted for allegedly leaking and using Samsung's 1.6 trillion won investment in the world’s first 18-nanometer DRAM process without authorization. In April of this year, they were sentenced to seven years in prison in the first trial and are currently in the second trial. The PRP includes the sequence of about 600 steps in DRAM manufacturing, equipment, condition values, and the companies and models of the equipment. Park, a former process design engineer at Samsung, hand-copied the relevant content into a 12-page notebook in September 2016 and brought it out, and is currently under an Interpol Red Notice.During the court hearing, the individual stated that there was a claim made during communications with the Chinese side that investment would not be provided to CXMT if they could not produce the 18-nanometer process. They later learned that the other party had wanted the technology from the very beginning, and CXMT initially had no plans to develop it independently. The pressure mentioned occurred before a meeting to prepare for the investment application. CXMT was established in 2016 with an investment of 14.4 billion yuan from Hefei Industrial Investment, a subsidiary of the Hefei municipal government, and had not been profitable for about 10 years, achieving its first annual profit last year with a net profit of 7.1 billion yuan.

Changxin Technology's revenue in the first half of the year was 150.31 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 873.64%

Changxin Technology released its 2026 semi-annual report, with revenue of 150.31 billion yuan in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 873.64%; net profit attributable to shareholders was 77.61 billion yuan, compared to a loss of 2.33 billion yuan in the same period last year; net cash flow from operating activities was 131.16 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2985.64%; gross profit margin was 84.84%, and R&D investment was 6.859 billion yuan, accounting for 4.56% of revenue. As of the end of the reporting period, total assets were 468.078 billion yuan, and net assets were 270.749 billion yuan. The company is the fourth largest DRAM IDM manufacturer globally and the largest in China, with products covering DDR5, LPDDR5/5X, LPDDR6, etc. It has collaborated with leading clients such as Alibaba Cloud, ByteDance, Tencent, Lenovo, Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo, and the fifth-generation process technology platform is undergoing customer certification. According to DIGITIMES, Changxin Memory and Yangtze Memory continue to expand, and recently Apple is actively seeking to introduce the two Chinese memory supply chains, drawing attention to their entry into Apple's supply system. Industry insiders reveal that the two manufacturers are actually using Apple to prove that the quality of Chinese DRAM and NAND Flash has reached international standards, while secretly expanding their cloud and enterprise market share through third-party assembly for export to North American neocloud operators.Changxin Memory's parent company, Changxin Technology, has completed fundraising of 29.5 billion yuan, while Yangtze Memory plans to raise about 33 billion yuan through an IPO for production line upgrades and R&D. Yangtze Memory has turned profitable in 2024, with a net profit attributable to the parent company reaching 33.379 billion yuan in the first quarter of 2026; its third-phase new factory will begin production ahead of schedule in the fourth quarter of 2026, with a total monthly production capacity of 100,000 wafers, of which about 20% will be trial-produced LPDDR, becoming its first DRAM base. The supply chain indicates that the two companies are expected to increase the self-sufficiency rate of domestic memory in China to over 50% by the end of 2027 to 2028.Yangtze Memory sells NAND to third-party module manufacturers and assembles them into enterprise-level SSDs to avoid location sensitivity; Changxin Memory has already obtained certifications from small and medium-sized cloud operators in the U.S., Canada, and other regions. U.S. private enterprises can, in principle, procure from the two companies, with the entity list primarily restricting their access to U.S. technology, but not completely prohibiting private procurement. Cloud operators also reduce compliance risks through methods such as renting computing power or holding assets through third parties. The industry believes that Apple's influence on supply and demand in the industry is declining, and the two companies have no intention of supplying Apple in large quantities or engaging in price competition, making it difficult to meet Apple's demand in the Chinese market in the short term.

Korean QFI has purchased Changxin Technology

According to a report by China Fund News, data from SEIBro, a subsidiary of the Korea Securities Depository (KSD), shows that as of August 18, the stock that Korean investors bought the most in A-shares over the past month is a mysterious stock.During this period, Korean investors net bought this stock for $45.322233 million (approximately 307.53 million RMB). Extending the timeframe to the past three months, this stock still ranks first in the net purchase list of A-shares by Korean investors. When trading this security, Korean securities firms, as qualified foreign institutional investors (QFI), must submit settlement instructions to KSD. The submission of settlement instructions requires the use of an ISIN code. Therefore, relevant Korean securities firms have chosen to temporarily use a temporary virtual code, and the name of the security is displayed based on the virtual ISIN.A search on SEIBro reveals that as of July 28, Changxin Technology had appeared among the stocks with the highest net purchase amounts by Korean investors in the previous week. However, as of July 27, Changxin Technology did not appear in the list of the top 50 A-shares by net purchase amount from Korean investors in the previous week (it is also possible that Korean investors had already bought it, but Changxin Technology did not make it into the top 50 A-shares by net purchase amount). This indicates that at the latest by July 28, which is the second day after Changxin Technology's listing, Korean investors had begun to buy.
