chatgpt

ChatGPT is a natural language processing model developed by OpenAI, based on the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) architecture. Although ChatGPT itself is not a blockchain or cryptocurrency technology, its applications in the crypto field include automated customer service, smart contract code generation, and analysis. ChatGPT's powerful language understanding capabilities give it potential innovative value in decentralized application (DApp) development and user interaction.

first_img OpenAI: Teenagers use ChatGPT for less than 15 minutes a day

OpenAI released its first report on teen usage on Wednesday, stating that teenagers use ChatGPT for an average of less than 15 minutes a day, with less than 2% using it for more than 3 hours continuously. The company noted that in conversations where break reminders appeared, nearly half of the users chose to take a break or ended the conversation within 5 minutes.OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Teens in August. This mode automatically activates based on age information or when it estimates the user is under 18, providing parental controls and limiting discussions on sensitive topics. The company stated that users of the teen version sent more education-related messages and used tools like learning visualization and Study Mode, and are considering adding learning features such as college application planning, flashcards, and quizzes. The nonprofit organization Common Sense Media reported on the same day that ChatGPT for Teens often notifies parents late or not at all when teen accounts discuss suicide, self-harm, or eating disorders. This study was based on more than a dozen accounts created for testing and found that the chatbot does not reliably suggest crisis hotlines or professional help. An OpenAI spokesperson stated that the test does not accurately reflect the actual operation of protections, and due to safety and scale reasons, the association of parents with teen accounts and safety reminders may take several hours to take effect.

first_img Florida requests the court to prohibit OpenAI from unsupervised development of new models

According to a report by Reuters on September 28, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier requested a judge on Monday to prohibit OpenAI from developing new artificial intelligence models without external oversight. This request is part of the state's lawsuit accusing OpenAI of harming children. Uthmeier also asked the court to order OpenAI to prohibit minors from using ChatGPT and to prevent the company from attributing human characteristics to the chat platform.Florida sued OpenAI in June, accusing it of misrepresenting the safety of ChatGPT, claiming that the platform provided information to school shooters, offered guidance on self-harm, and made young users addicted. The lawsuit was triggered by a shooting incident at a university in Tallahassee last year, as well as several other incidents in other states where it was alleged that ChatGPT provided information to individuals who later committed acts of violence. Uthmeier, a Republican, is also the first state attorney general to sue OpenAI over its impact on young users, and the company is facing related lawsuits filed by individuals and families.OpenAI spokesperson Drew Pusateri stated that the company has paused training its most powerful models and will not resume until additional safety measures are implemented, expressing a willingness to work with Florida and other states to promote pragmatic policies applicable across the industry. The company denies responsibility in these cases, stating that the chatbot provides information widely available online and continuously updates its safety tools. The request also cited recent comments from a former OpenAI employee and a current board member, stating that the development of artificial intelligence could lead to the end of humanity and must be slowed down.

first_img OpenAI is facing a class-action lawsuit, accused of allowing outsourced personnel to read ChatGPT conversations

Two ChatGPT users from California filed a proposed class action lawsuit against OpenAI in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California this month, accusing the company of failing to adequately inform users that their real conversations were being handed over to external contractors for processing. The lawsuit was served to OpenAI on September 2, focusing on its internal initiative Project Lily. According to the complaint, "AI data reviewers" and "chatbot evaluators" recruited through a third-party staffing company read real ChatGPT prompts and complete conversations, summarize user intent, and score and comment on responses from four models on a scale of 1 to 7.This process is known in the industry as reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), which is a fundamental method for enhancing chatbot capabilities. The complaint states that users were never explicitly informed that a person, rather than a machine, might be reading their conversations. OpenAI filters conversations through an automated system before human review, but the complaint alleges that the filters cannot intercept all content, and personal details sometimes still reach contractors. 404 Media first reported on the project on September 14 and found that the reviewers' dashboard included "user memory summaries," which could expose users' approximate locations, occupations, or private life information, even though usernames had been removed.OpenAI stated that such reviews aim to reduce two behaviors: chatbots behaving too much like humans and overly catering to users, referred to by researchers as "flattery." The complaint raises eight legal claims, including violations of California's Unfair Competition Law, Consumer Privacy Act, and common law claims for intrusion into private affairs, with the plaintiffs seeking damages, restitution of unjust enrichment, and punitive damages.
