U.S. lawmakers re-examine the issue of stablecoin yields, focusing on the risk of bank deposit outflows

U.S. lawmakers have recently resumed discussions on the yield mechanisms of stablecoins, with some legislators expressing concerns that the yields offered by stablecoins could lead to a drain on bank deposits and blur the lines between crypto products and traditional bank deposits.During a Senate Banking Committee hearing, Senator Angela Alsobrooks stated that while she supports financial innovation, the yield mechanisms of stablecoins could create products similar to bank deposits but lack corresponding regulatory and protective measures, potentially leading to future deposit outflow risks. The issue of stablecoin yields has been one of the core topics in legislative negotiations within the crypto market. The stablecoin bill GENIUS, passed in 2025, has prohibited stablecoin issuers from directly paying interest to holders, but it has not banned third-party platforms like Coinbase from offering rewards to users for holding coins.Banking professionals believe that allowing stablecoins to offer yields would undermine the deposit base of the traditional banking system. A previous study by the Independent Community Bankers of America indicated that if stablecoin yield mechanisms were fully opened, bank deposits could decrease by approximately $1.3 trillion, leading to a reduction of about $850 billion in community bank loans. The crypto industry, however, argues that restricting stablecoin yields would stifle innovation. Some industry insiders have stated that there is currently no evidence to suggest a significant correlation between the proliferation of stablecoins and the outflow of bank deposits.Senator Thom Tillis has indicated that he will request regulators to conduct an independent assessment of the risks of deposit outflow that stablecoins may trigger. Meanwhile, the White House has recently organized multiple rounds of meetings between banks and crypto companies, hoping to reach a solution on the issue of stablecoin yields by the end of this month.

Analysts: Both technical indicators and on-chain data point to short-term downside risks for Bitcoin

According to Cointelegraph, analyst Yashu Gola stated that the current technical indicators and on-chain data both point to short-term downside risks for Bitcoin.A typical "bear flag" pattern is forming on the Bitcoin daily chart. This structure began with a "flagpole" that dropped sharply to the $60,000 area, followed by price consolidation within a converging trend line, consistently pressured by key moving averages, with weak momentum. If the price clearly breaks below the lower boundary of the flag, it could further test the $56,000 level within two months, representing a decline of about 20% from the current level. Conversely, if it breaks above the upper boundary around $72,700 (coinciding with the 20-day moving average), it could invalidate this bearish structure.On-chain data platform CryptoQuant shows that the Bitcoin "whale inflow ratio" (7-day average) has surged to a historic high of 0.619, well above the 0.40 at the beginning of the month. This indicator tracks the total inflow of the top ten transactions, and its rise is typically interpreted as increased selling pressure from whales.Meanwhile, the Greed and Fear Index is signaling a potential "bottoming signal": the 21-day moving average has crossed below the zero line and is now turning upwards. Historically, this combination often appears alongside a "sustained bottom," and while a brief downturn cannot be ruled out, the possibility of a rebound is accumulating.

U.S. Senator Calls for Review of Trump-Linked Crypto Transactions Involving $500 Million Investment from UAE for National Security Risks

According to FinanceFeeds, two Democratic senators have written to Treasury Secretary Scott Bancenet, requesting an assessment of whether the UAE government's affiliated entity's $500 million investment in the cryptocurrency company World Liberty Financial should undergo a national security review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).The committee, led by the Treasury Department, is responsible for reviewing foreign investment transactions that may involve sensitive technologies or data. According to a previous report by The Wall Street Journal, G42, supported by Abu Dhabi royal family member Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, acquired a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial through an entity named Aryam Investment 1. The report indicated that some of the funds flowed to the Trump family and its affiliates. The Trump camp denied any knowledge of this. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Angus King questioned in their letter whether the deal could allow a foreign government access to user data and mentioned G42's past collaborations with Chinese companies. They requested the Treasury Department to clarify by March 5 whether a review process has been initiated or if a recommendation has been made to the president.World Liberty Financial is the issuer of the stablecoin USD1, which has circulated over $5 billion since its launch in March 2025. The company lists Trump and his Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff as honorary co-founders. A company spokesperson previously stated that the two were not involved in the UAE-related transactions.
