first_img Spanish police arrested a 16-year-old boy involved in operating the KillSec ransomware group

According to Decrypt, the European Union's law enforcement agency reported that Spanish police arrested a 16-year-old Romanian suspect in Alicante, suspected of being an administrator and main operator of the ransomware group KillSec.Two other suspects in their twenties were arrested in the UK and Romania, respectively; another developer who just turned 18 in August this year has been identified but has not been arrested due to some crimes occurring during their minor years. This operation, codenamed Operation KillSwitch, was led by the Hamburg State Criminal Police and the city's prosecution office, focusing on approximately 1,000 suspected attacks worldwide, with about 500 confirmed as successful intrusions.Law enforcement searched eight locations in Spain, Greece, Romania, and the UK, seized five central servers, and redirected related domain names to seizure announcement pages, while also confiscating at least 110 TB of stolen data.KillSec has been active since around 2024, exploiting software vulnerabilities and poorly secured cloud storage entry points to infiltrate corporate systems, copying internal data and naming victim organizations on dark web leak sites, threatening to publicly release documents to demand cryptocurrency ransoms, and if the target refuses to pay, they release the data for free. The Swiss Federal Police noted that the group also employed double extortion tactics, first encrypting servers and then applying pressure. U.S. prosecutors' charges indicate that a Dutch national residing in the UK, Fouad Eltibrizi (nicknamed Archduke), was indicted by a federal grand jury in Puerto Rico on September 16, subsequently arrested, and awaiting extradition, facing up to 10 years in prison. The European Cybercrime Centre, under the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation, is assisting in tracing cryptocurrency funds and conducting digital forensics.

The U.S. SEC sues two private equity funds: suspected of falsely selling Pre-IPO shares of OpenAI, SpaceX, etc., and misappropriating investor funds

According to Fortune, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed lawsuits against two private fund cases, accusing the relevant fund advisors of raising funds under the pretext of investing in popular tech companies like OpenAI and SpaceX before their IPOs, but allegedly providing false information to investors and misappropriating some of the funds. The SEC stated that Meyer Global Management and its head Owen Meyer are suspected of raising at least $18.5 million from nearly 100 investors to purchase shares of companies before their IPOs, but misappropriated at least $1.27 million, including using fund money for personal consumption, paying entertainment expenses, and personal investments. Among them, the SEC accused Meyer of establishing a fund for investing in shares of OpenAI and SpaceX, but some of the funds did not actually hold the relevant assets. In another case, the SEC and federal prosecutors accused Beyond Alpha Ventures heads Christopher Dinelli and Jacob Frankel of raising over $8.7 million from 35 investors and falsely promoting that the fund held shares in companies like SpaceX and xAI.The SEC stated that the two provided false investment reports, with some of the funds being used for options trading, film investments, and personal use. The SEC emphasized that the accused tech companies and their management have not been found to have engaged in misconduct. Regulatory agencies have been continuously monitoring investment products that promote "acquiring shares before popular private company IPOs" and have launched multiple enforcement actions against relevant private fund advisors.

first_img Hyperliquid Co-Founder: Self-Custody and Transparency are the True Advantages of On-Chain Finance

According to The Block, Jeff Yan, co-founder of the decentralized perpetual contract trading platform Hyperliquid, stated during a fireside chat at the Korea Blockchain Week 2026 that around-the-clock trading is not the essential difference between on-chain trading venues and traditional exchanges. He pointed out that cryptocurrencies do not need to adhere to traditional market opening hours because these assets inherently possess international attributes, and some traditional exchanges have already begun to actively extend their trading hours.Yan emphasized that the more enduring value of on-chain finance comes from allowing users to retain control and custody of their funds, which helps to avoid a common single point of failure risk. In his view, once a counterparty, intermediary, or even custodian encounters issues, the ability to self-custody becomes particularly crucial. In addition, transparency constitutes another distinct feature of on-chain trading. Although it does not have a strong appeal in serving ordinary consumers, it is essential for building trust in the entire system. In a system controlled solely by a private organization, users cannot obtain the same level of trust and neutrality guarantees. He also mentioned that for assets lacking publicly available prices during the closing hours of traditional exchanges, continuous trading remains necessary. He cited commodities, stocks, and Pre-IPO targets that had already traded on Hyperliquid before the reference market opened as examples to illustrate that the demand is indeed real.

Satellite communication infrastructure company Space Network has signed a binding pre-purchase agreement worth $50 million with Philippine infrastructure company HQ Company International Holdings to provide satellite connectivity to the Philippines through the low Earth orbit satellite network Freeport. The signing ceremony was held at SKY 31 in Seoul, attended by Space Network CEO Tae Lim Oh and HQ Company CEO Yongsoo Samuel Cho.According to the agreement, Space Network will provide access to the Freeport network, technical hardware, software, and ongoing engineering support, while HQ Company will be responsible for local sales, customer acquisition, spectrum authorization, and regional service implementation. Cho is the son-in-law of former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos and has long been engaged in cross-border investment and infrastructure business in the Philippines. This agreement adds to the $100 million agreement signed by Space Network with Vietnam's DETI Technology in June 2026, bringing the total commercial pre-purchase amount to $150 million.Freeport is built and operated by Space Network, currently featuring 4 low Earth orbit satellites, with plans to expand to approximately 230 satellites by the time commercial services launch in 2029. Operators can purchase regional capacity and build their own services on the open network, with nodes settling through on-chain contracts. The related project Spacecoin combines blockchain protocols with low Earth orbit satellites for service pricing and payments within the network.
