first_img Alibaba ModelScope competes with MoArk for the domestic open-source model platform

According to Rest of World, Alibaba launched the open-source model platform ModelScope in 2022, and OSChina launched MoArk in 2023, providing model hosting, testing, and customization services for Chinese developers behind firewalls. In 2023, Chinese regulators blocked Hugging Face without disclosing specific reasons; reports indicate that the government simultaneously allowed artificial intelligence laboratories to bypass the blockade to share Chinese models globally. ModelScope currently hosts over 170,000 models and stated in March that it has 170,000 models and 250 million users; MoArk hosts about 20,000 commonly used models, both still below Hugging Face, which hosts over 3 million open models.OSChina CEO Xu Yong stated that not everyone can always use a VPN, and China needs to establish an independent artificial intelligence ecosystem that serves Chinese users, claiming that China is developing an independent ecosystem faster than during the internet era. He also mentioned that MoArk has deployed engineering teams to ensure that models can run on different types of Chinese chips, making it their mission to ensure mainstream open models are compatible with Chinese chips. Both platforms offer some services for free, with additional computing power and premium features charged; ModelScope also hosts university hackathons and has opened co-working and event spaces for AI entrepreneurs in Hangzhou.Headquartered in New York, Hugging Face is a major platform for sharing open models and datasets. In September, Nvidia announced its acquisition of the company for $12.9 billion and noted in regulatory filings that regulators might prohibit sharing Chinese models on the site.

Xiao Hong, the founder of General Intelligence Manus, stated that preparations for a domestic version are underway

The founder of the general-purpose intelligent agent Manus, Xiao Hong, stated that when Manus was born, Codex and Claude Cowork had not yet appeared in the market, and the product positioning has always been a general-purpose intelligent agent. He likened Manus to a computer-selling business, believing that users may primarily purchase computers for work, but if they cannot watch videos or play games, the experience will be quite limited; therefore, it should not be confined to office tasks.Xiao Hong indicated that videos and games are important scenarios for unleashing creativity, which need to be perfected through the local client Manus Studio. The related videos for Cue are entirely produced by Manus Studio, without using video generation models; instead, the agent first writes the code, which is then converted into video. With the help of cloud computers, Manus can also create online games that support user participation with friends. In terms of infrastructure, Manus cloud computers can provide cloud-based Linux, Mac, and Windows environments. Xiao Hong stated that when the agent operates the computer in the cloud, it will not compete with the user for the local mouse cursor, and he anticipates that individuals will be able to control large-scale computing clusters in the future to satisfy curiosity and conduct experiments and explorations in fields such as mathematics and science. He also described Cue as having an independent phone number, email, payment capability, computer, and sufficient intelligence, and stated that if such agents could be regarded as humans, there might be more changes in upper-level interactions. Xiao Hong mentioned that building product experiences in an overseas open ecosystem is relatively easier, and Manus is actively preparing a domestic version.

hot_img Counterpoint: If the United States bans imports of Chinese optical modules, it will backfire on domestic cloud vendors rather than just Chinese suppliers

According to Counterpoint Research analysis, if the proposed import ban on Chinese optical modules by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States is implemented, it will primarily impact American cloud providers rather than Chinese suppliers. InnoLight leads the global data center optical module revenue with approximately 27% market share, while Coherent ranks second with about 17%. Chinese manufacturers collectively account for about two-thirds of the global unit supply and approximately 60% of the optical communication module revenue. The analysis points out that Western suppliers like Coherent and Lumentum lack sufficient cleanroom capacity, automated packaging infrastructure, and yield scale in the short term, making it impossible to fill the capacity gap left by Chinese manufacturers within 12-24 months. This could lead to delays in AI cluster deployments by several quarters and increase material costs for cloud providers. At the same time, Chinese module manufacturers rely on high-end 800G/1.6T module revenue from North American hyperscale customers for over 90%, but have achieved partial capacity relocation by establishing factories in Thailand.Counterpoint emphasizes that the optical module supply chain is a highly interdependent system. Chinese manufacturers heavily procure DSP chips from Broadcom and Marvell, as well as lasers and optical chips from Lumentum, Coherent, and Mitsubishi Electric. A forced separation would disrupt the entire ecosystem.

hot_img DeepSeek V4 Flash's weekly call volume exceeds 70 trillion tokens, ranking first in the world, with four out of the top five domestic models

According to data from the multi-model aggregation platform OpenRouter, from July 27 to August 2, DeepSeek V4 Flash topped the global AI large model usage ranking with a call volume of 7.22 trillion tokens. Data from the open-source platform OpenCode shows that this model alone processed 8 trillion tokens on August 1. Four out of the top five positions are occupied by Chinese large models: Xiaomi's MiMo-V2.5 (5.1 trillion), Tencent's Hunyuan Hy3 (5.01 trillion), and another DeepSeek V4 Flash model (3.45 trillion) ranked second to fourth, while OpenAI GPT-5.6 Luna (2.99 trillion, a month-on-month increase of 738%) ranked fifth. The total call volume of Chinese large models last week reached 28.13 trillion tokens, surpassing the United States for 14 consecutive weeks, firmly holding the top position globally. The previously highly anticipated Kimi K3 fell out of the top ten this week, ranking 12th. It is noteworthy that free models are capturing an increasing share of traffic, with some models experiencing month-on-month growth exceeding 50%. Analysis indicates that domestic models have shifted from price competition to relying on inference performance and stable service capabilities, but companies like OpenAI and Anthropic continue to iterate, accelerating the internal competition and the pace of product iteration will determine user retention capabilities.
