Matrixport's RWA platform Matrixdock collaborates with BitGo and Brink’s to introduce an institutional-grade custody system for the gold token XAUm
Recently, Matrixport's RWA platform Matrixdock announced a partnership with digital asset infrastructure provider BitGo, with global precious metals service provider Brink's responsible for the storage and security of physical precious metals, introducing institutional-grade custody capabilities for the gold token XAUm. According to RWA.xyz data, XAUm is currently the third-largest tokenized gold product globally by assets under management (AUM).
Connecting Physical Gold, Custody Systems, and On-Chain Transparency
This collaboration combines the strengths of the three parties in digital asset custody, physical vault security, and asset transparency: BitGo provides a mature digital asset custody infrastructure and compliance support, Brink's is responsible for the storage and security of physical precious metals, and Matrixdock builds the asset tokenization framework and on-chain transparency system.
Through this partnership, institutional clients can hold and manage XAUm tokens backed by physical gold in a compliant manner within a regulated custody system.
XAUm: Tokenized Gold Backed by Physical Gold with Programmable Features
Each XAUm represents 1 troy ounce of 99.99% pure physical gold, certified by LBMA, securely stored by Brink's in its specialized vaults located in Asia.
In terms of transparency, XAUm can be publicly verified through Matrixdock's on-chain reserve proof mechanism and Gold Allocation Lookup tool, allowing users to check the corresponding gold bar's serial number, refinery, weight, and vault location.
In supported application scenarios, XAUm can be used as an on-chain asset in automated strategies and smart contracts.
How Institutional Clients Can Hold XAUm through BitGo
At the custody level, XAUm can be held through BitGo Trust Company Inc. (a regulated qualified custodian). This institution operates under U.S. and international regulatory frameworks, enabling institutional clients to manage XAUm within a compliant trust structure and secure wallet system. Through this collaboration, institutional clients can:
- Custody XAUm under a regulated trust framework, achieving asset segregation and fiduciary responsibility protection;
- Manage access, transfer, and operational permissions for digital gold through multi-signature and policy control mechanisms;
- Integrate tokenized gold with other digital assets into an institutional-grade custody platform for management.
Tokenized Gold Infrastructure through Tri-Party Collaboration
This partnership is built on the existing strategic collaboration between BitGo and Brink's Global Services (NYSE: BCO). Brink's is a leading global security logistics and physical asset custody institution and made a strategic investment in BitGo in 2024.
In the XAUm project, Brink's is responsible for the secure custody and storage of physical gold, BitGo provides the digital asset custody system and compliance support, and Matrixdock is responsible for token issuance and on-chain transparency management of reserves. The three parties jointly construct a tokenized gold assurance framework covering physical assets, custody systems, and on-chain verification.
